Could someone please enlighten me on the subject of Social Media Networking? I just don’t seem to be able to grasp the concept. I’ve joined MyBlogLog, Plurk, Twitter, etc. but all I seem to get are little quips and quotes about what someone ate for breakfast, what time they went to the gym …

How does this help promote one’s business? I can understand why Facebook or LinkedIn could be useful, but the others are beyond my scope of comprehension. What good does having a ton of fans, friends, or whatever on your site do if you don’t even know half of them? So what if I lose Karma points on Plurk?

I’m doing it, but I just don’t get it.
